Meerut: A man was arrested after a video surfaced online purportedly showing him spitting on rotis while cooking at an engagement ceremony in Bulandshahr, police said on Monday.
A case was filed against Mohd Tausif (in his late 20s), a resident of Singhawali Ahir in Baghpat, at Baleni police station. The incident took place on Sunday during the engagement ceremony of Sumit Sharma at Jagat Farm House in Baleni, where Tausif had been hired as a tandoor cook.
Police said some youths attending the function recorded a video in the afternoon in which Tausif was purportedly seen spitting on the rotis before placing them inside the tandoor. The clip triggered outrage among guests.
SP Suraj Rai said, "An FIR under BNS sections 271, 272, 274 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 351 (criminal intimidation) was registered against the accused, and he was sent to jail after producing him before the court."
Groom's cousin Rahul Sharma said the gathering turned tense as soon as guests noticed the malicious act.
This is not the first such case reported in the region. Earlier this month, one Mohd Danish was arrested in Bulandshahr for allegedly spitting on rotis at a wedding. In March 2025, Shavez, a resident of Loni, was arrested in Ghaziabad on similar charges during a religious event in Gagan Vihar area.
