Unauthorised cattle slaughter, transport are not allowed: DC
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district administration has set up teams to check illegal slaughter of animals and decided to seize the properties if rules are violated.
Deputy commissioner Darshan HV has instructed to take appropriate measures to prevent unauthorised slaughter, transport of camels/cattle, and unauthorised meat sales. He presided over a district-level committee meeting held at the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) office to address the prevention of unauthorised cattle slaughter and transport during the Bakrid festival.
It is mandatory to obtain permission from the department of animal husbandry and veterinary services for cattle transport. To prevent unauthorised cattle transport, vigilance must be maintained on cattle transport vehicles at all checkpoints. During cattle transport, it is mandatory to keep official documents such as permits, details of cattle owners, details of buyers, vehicle records, and driver information. The DC emphasised that these documents must be thoroughly checked.
“If unauthorised animal slaughter is found in any buildings, such buildings should be seized according to regulations,” he said. A district-level committee has been formed to prevent illegal cattle transport and slaughter, and committee members should take action in this regard. He said that the relevant departments should work in coordination. Chief veterinary officer Dr Ashok KR, ASP Anil Kumar, and others were present at the meeting.
