Mangaluru: The state government has formed a committee headed by M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, to conduct a study to declare Tulu as the second official language of the state. In a circular, K R Ramesh, under-secretary to the department of Kannada and culture, said the government has received several memorandums from individuals and organisations seeking declaration of Tulu language as the second official language of the state. The committee will study the pros and cons of declaring the same. It will have experts Keshava Bangera Narayanaguru, Madhava Konaje, Ganesh A Sankamar, Prithvi Kavatar, Vasanth Shetty, Chandrahasa Kananthoor and Sandhya Alva as its members and the director of the department as member-secretary. The committee has been directed to submit a report to the government within a week. tnn
