MANGALURU: A high school student drowned when he went to collect seashells in the Nethravati river at Pudu village in
Bantwal
taluk on Tuesday.
According to police, victim Abdul Sattar, 13, the son of Abdul Basheer, a resident of Pudu village, along with four others aged between 5 to 13, had gone to collect seashells from the Nethravati river as there was a school holiday due to the nationwide strike.
The group went to the other bank of the river to pick seashells. After they were done, they decided to take a bath, where victim Abdul was carried away by a current and drowned. The incident took place around noon. The boys who accompanied the victim brought the incident to the notice of elders, and they retrieved the body. A case has been registered at the

police station.
