Mangaluru City Corporation launches Rs 165 crore worth of works

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Saturday launched the Rs 165 crore Mahatma Gandhi Nagara Vikas Yojana (MGNVY) 2.0, a major urban infrastructure initiative aimed at improving civic amenities across the city. The project comprises 25 works across five packages and is slated for completion within 11 months. Officials said tenders for most works have already been finalised, with execution set to begin shortly.District minister Dinesh Gundu Rao launched the works at multiple locations, including near Maravoor Bridge, Valencia and Chilimbi. The project's design and consultancy were handled by Gujarat-based Green Design and Engineering Services Pvt Ltd. Of the total outlay, Rs 132 crore is the project cost, with the remainder towards GST. The five packages are estimated at Rs 33.2 crore, Rs 46.9 crore, Rs 44.4 crore, Rs 28.5 crore and Rs 12 crore.MGNVY 2.0 is part of a Rs 2,000 crore state urban development programme, with Rs 165 crore allocated to Mangaluru. The funding model includes 85% through a National Housing Bank loan, while the remaining 15% will be equally shared by the state and central govts.MCC officials said the initiative will strengthen road networks, drainage systems, and overall public infrastructure, while improving basic civic services across several localities.At the launch in Valencia, minsiter Rao directed officials to ensure timely completion, stressing the role of the MCC commissioner and engineers in monitoring progress and avoiding delays. "With these projects, we want to make Mangaluru another Bengaluru," he said.Development WorksUnder the MGNVY 2.0 project, development works have been divided into five packages covering several wards across MCC limits. Package 1 focuses on the comprehensive development of arterial, sub-arterial and ward roads in wards 2, 6, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20. The works include construction of RCC drains with cover slabs, new cement concrete (CC) roads, white topping, earth-retaining structures, footpaths, electrification, utility duct lines, and other infrastructure improvements. Package 2 covers wards 24, 25, 31, 33, 35, 36, 37, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53, 54 and 56, while Package 3 includes development works in wards 17, 38, 39, 40, 43, 44, 45, 48, 50, 52, 54 and 60. Package 4 will be implemented in wards 2, 6, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 37, 40, 46, 47, 49 and 59. Package 5, the final segment, covers wards 2, 3, 9, 17, 36 and 37.
