Udupi: A road rage incident near the Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi on Tuesday evening led to a case and counter-case being registered, with police arresting one of the accused.
According to police, around 7.50 pm, Rang Rao of Ravindra Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana, had parked his car near the temple parking area, and was crossing the road with his family to visit the shrine. He alleged that a car, driven by Suprith, came speeding towards them.
When Rang Rao reportedly asked the driver to slow down, the latter allegedly claimed to be a local and said he drove the vehicle in the same manner, despite it having no horn or brakes. He allegedly abused the complainant and his family in Kannada, brought out a stick-like object from the car and assaulted them. Rang Rao sustained a bleeding head injury in the attack. Based on the complaint, Udupi Town police registered a case under Sections 74, 118(1), 352 and 351(2) of the BNS and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
In a counter-complaint, Suprith Kumar,40, from Korangrapady in Udupi, alleged that while he was travelling with his wife and child in the car along the Kalsanka-Rajangana Road near the Rajangana parking area around 7.30 pm, a car came towards his vehicle in a rash manner. When he stopped and questioned the driver, he alleged that the occupants of the other car got down and attacked him using a photo stand and chairs. He further alleged that his wife was also assaulted, and the mirrors of his car were damaged. He claimed that the attackers abused him in a language unknown to him, and later assaulted him with an iron object and other items, causing bleeding injuries to his tongue. The front windshield of his car was also allegedly damaged.
Based on this complaint, Udupi Town police registered a complaint under Sections 74, 118(1) and 324 of the BNS.
Police said Suprith Kumar has been arrested in connection with one of the cases, and will be produced before a court.
