Man arrested for provocative comment against home minister
Udupi: Karkala Town police have arrested a man for allegedly posting a derogatory comment against home minister Priyank Kharge on Facebook.
Based on a complaint lodged by Suresh, police have registered a case against a man for allegedly making derogatory, caste-based and threatening remarks against Priyank on social media.
According to the complaint, while browsing Facebook on Sunday, the complainant came across a post on a Facebook account named 'Namma Karla’ featuring a photograph of Priyank, and carrying a statement attributed to him. A user identified as Sudheer Bangera,48, had allegedly posted it on Facebook on Saturday.
The complaint alleged that the comment was derogatory towards the minister, and was intended to create hostility, hatred and enmity among different groups. It further alleged that despite knowing that the minister belongs to a scheduled caste community, the accused made caste-based remarks, and issued threats, thereby disturbing social harmony and communal peace.
Based on the complaint, Karkala Town police registered a case under Sections 351(3), 196 and 353(2) of the BNS, along with Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(u) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police have arrested Sudheer Bangera. He will be produced before a court.
