KSCPCR chairperson tells police to follow mandatory paperwork in child-related cases

Mangaluru: Karnataka state commission for protection of child rights chairperson Shashidhar S Kosambe paid a surprise visit to Dharmasthala police station on Sunday and reviewed the functioning of child-related procedures and records.He said that an ‘Open House' programme must be conducted every Thursday to create awareness among children about their rights. He instructed that form no 1 must be compulsorily filled while presenting children in conflict with law before the juvenile justice board (JJB), and form no 17 must be mandatorily filled when children are taken before the child welfare committee for counselling.Later, he reviewed the functioning of the special juvenile police unit and inspected the register maintained for the open house programme, as well as records related to child cases. He directed the police to ensure timely reporting of cases relating to child rights violations, including kidnapping, Pocso, and child marriage cases.The chairperson also stated that, under section 107 of the juvenile justice (care and protection of children) Act, and rules 8(6) and 86(11) of juvenile justice (care and protection of children) model rules, a permanent display board containing the names, addresses, and phone numbers of designated officers, along with the helpline number 1098, must be installed immediately.PSI Samarth Ganiger and staff of Dharmasthala police station were present.
