Doctors at govt hospital successfully remove 8-kg uterine fibroid from woman
Udupi: A team of specialist doctors at the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Govt Hospital successfully performed a major surgery to remove an 8-kg uterine fibroid from a 44-year-old woman who had been suffering from abdominal pain for over a year.
The complex surgery was carried out by a team of gynaecologists comprising Dr Shashank Kini, Dr Jasmine, Dr Kavitha and Dr Amrutansh, along with anaesthesiologists Dr Suryanarayana and Dr Raj Gopal Bhandary. Nursing officer Rakshitha and operation theatre assistant Sangeetha played a key role in the successful procedure.
The patient had been experiencing abdominal pain for nearly a year, and had sought treatment from private doctors. However, as her condition did not improve, she approached the govt hospital for further evaluation.
Upon examination, specialist doctors found that her abdomen had enlarged to the size of a full-term pregnancy, and appeared to contain a fluid-filled mass. Subsequent ultrasound and CT scan examinations revealed a large tumour in the uterus.
Following detailed consultations with district surgeon Dr H Ashok, it was decided to perform the surgery at the hospital. Acting on his guidance, the medical team successfully conducted the operation on May 25, and removed the tumour.
After recovering from the surgery, the patient expressed her gratitude to the doctors and the hospital administration. District surgeon Dr H Ashok congratulated the entire team of specialists, nurses and support staff for successfully carrying out the challenging surgery and removing such a large uterine tumour.
