Special poojas were performed before the animals began their journey. They are being accompanied by two veterinary doctors Dr Muthuramalingam and Dr Ganga Sudan, who will ensure that the animals are in good health during the journey.

The camp will continue for 48 days. The weight and health of the pachyderms recorded before the journey would be compared with the corresponding results after the camp, sources said.

The mahouts, who are accompanying the animals, will be provided with boarding and lodging facilities at the camp.
