Set up spl court to try Pollachi sex abuse: Kani

Tuticorin: Rajya Sabha MP and DMK leader Kanimozhi on Thursday said that a judicial probe should be conducted into the Pollachi sexual abuse case and added that a special court should be set up exclusively for this case to ensure a fair probe.

Interacting with reporters in Tuticorin, the DMK women’s wing leader accused the state government and police department of trying to cover up the case. “But who are they trying to protect is among the many unanswered questions,” she said.

Kanimozhi also expressed concern at the state government naming and disclosing the identity of a victim in the case. She said that disclosing the identity of the victims looks like an effort to instil fear in their minds and ensure that more women did not come forward to lodge complaints.

“So many women and girls were affected over seven years but only four people have been arrested. No woman officer is engaged in the probe,” she said and came down heavily on the superintendent of police of Coimbatore district R Pandiarajan. Kanimozhi expressed doubt whether he would be sensitive towards the case and questioned the reason for the delay in transferring the case to the CBI. tnn
