Punjab wins most of Gatka medals in Khelo India

MADURAI: Punjab state came out with flying colours in the Gatka tournament of the sixth Khelo India Youth Games being held in Madurai as the three days of tournament came to an end on Tuesday.

The state won four gold medals in individual and group events while Delhi and Chandigarh won one gold medal each. Punjab hauled four gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Delhi won one gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Union territory Chandigarh won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Haryana won two bronze medals while Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh won one bronze medal each in the event.

Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, MLA G Thalapathy, and City Commissioner of Police J Loganathan gave away the medals to the winners.

As the results were announced, Gursewak Sin from Punjab won gold in the boys single soti individual event while Harjasdeep S from Delhi won silver and Mandeep Singh from Haryana and Amritpal Sin from Punjab won bronze medals.

In the girls single soti individual event, Prabhkiran K from Punjab won gold while Ramandeep KA from Chandigarh won silver and Niyati Sharma from Delhi and Jagdeep Kaur from Punjab won bronze medals.

In the boys farri soti individual event, Kulbir Singh from Chandigarh won gold and Damanjeet SI from Punjab won silver while Armaan Singh from Delhi and Nikhil Choud from Himachal Pradesh won bronze medals. In the girls farri soti event, Jasmeet Kaur from Delhi won gold, Gagandeep KA from Punjab won Silver while Arshdeep Kaur from Punjab and Harman Kaur from Chandigarh won bronze medals.

In the boys farri soti team event, the Punjab team comprising Armanjot Singh, Jotinder Singh and Kushaldeep Singh while the Delhi team comprising Ranjeet Singh, Sahibpreet Singh and Gaganpreet Singh won silver and Chandigarh team comprising Navpreet Singh, Isvinder Singh and Namanpreet Singh and Jharkhand team comprising Jasmit Kumar, Priyanshu Raj Singh and Vedant Bhardwaj won bronze medals.

In the girls farri soti team event, Gurleen Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and Gurwinder Kaur Tiwana from Punjab won gold medal, Simranjit Kaur, Jashan Preet Kaur and Japneet Kaur from Delhi won silver medal while Prerna, Sharan Kaur, Amandeep Kaur from Haryana and Baldeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur Khanna and Arshpreet Kaur Saggu from Madhya Pradesh won bronze medals.
