Kin receive body of man killed in Nanguneri

Tirunelveli: Family members of John Mark, a disabled Scheduled Caste youth who was murdered by a gang at Perumbathu village near Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district on the night of March 2, received the body and performed the final rites after six days on Monday.Demanding financial assistance, a govt job for John's wife Kannagi, who is also differently abled, and educational assistance for his children, John's family refused to receive the body. However, after Kannagi's request, the family decided to get the body. A gang of nine masked individuals on three motorcycles launched a brutal, unprovoked attack with sickles and hurled a Molotov cocktail at a tea shop in Perumpathu village on March 2, leading to the death of Trinath Kata and John Mark while five others were injured.Police arrested all nine suspects. They attributed the violence to the suspects' desire to establish themselves as gangsters.
