HC grants bail to man who pushed down collector

Madurai: The Madras high court has granted bail to a man who inadvertently pushed down Ramanathapuram district collector during a quarrel between an MP and a state minister recently.
The court was hearing the bail petition filed by Vijayaramu, who was arrested by the Kenikarai police on June 17.
The case of the prosecution is that a function was organised to distribute chief minister trophy prizes to students on June 17. Though the event was scheduled to start at 3pm, it began at around 2.45pm after the minister for backward classes welfare R S Raja Kannappan arrived. MP Navas Kani who arrived a few minutes later picked up an argument with the minister over the early start of the function.
During the argument, Vijayaramu who works for the MP inadvertently pushed down the collector B Vishnu Chandran, who fell on a sofa. Based on the complaint of the district sports and youth welfare officer, police arrested the petitioner.
The counsel for the petitioner submitted that he is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case. However, the additional public prosecutor submitted that after investigation the final report has been filed before the concerned court and the same is yet to be taken on file. Stating that there are three previous cases against the petitioner, he sought to dismiss the bail petition. TNN
