All the world’s a stage for these students to create awareness

Madurai: Students of Dr T Thirugnanam Primary School staged a play to spread awareness on dengue in the city on Friday. Around 24 class V students participated in the event at East Street near Kamarajar Salai.

They started by enacting the symptoms of dengue such as fever, headache, joint pain in order to identify the disease for quicker treatment and further depicted how viruses are responsible for dengue and chickungunya. They also showed stagnating water in coconut shells or leaving the water tank or pot open leads to breeding of mosquitos. In the end, methods to prevent the spread of dengue and other parasite diseases were mentioned.

“Since it’s been raining for a few days we decided to stage this play. It also makes the children interested as they interact more and get appreciation. It is a healthy way of learning,” said K Saravanan, headmaster of the school.

The street play will be held in areas around the school, covering ward 52 and 53 of Madurai Corporation and will continue throughout the week.

The residents encouraged the students for their performance and agreed to share the information they witnessed with others.
