PPCB catches 3 dyeing units flouting norms
Ludhiana: Under its campaign to check water and air pollution caused by industrial units in Ludhiana, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) conducted another series of surprise inspections and found three dyeing units violating norms. Sandeep Bahl, PPCB’s chief environmental officer, Ludhiana, said, “During inspection, the teams found some violating dyeing factories, which were intentionally causing pollution by discharging untreated effluents into the fields.”Bahl said, “One of the units in Kohara was found bypassing the untreated effluents from the collection tank of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) with the help of a flexible pipe onto the plantation area. Further the industry was also using unauthorized fuel in form of poultry waste after mixing with agro waste in its boilers, which leads to the generation of foul smell and air pollution in the area. Second firm located in Seera village, Rahon Road, was discharging its treated effluents into deep trenches.” Action against these violating units is being taken as per the acts and rules of the PPCB, Bahl said. tnn
