LUDHIANA: Plans are afoot to make your drive on Ludhiana roads safer. Traffic police, district transport office and NGO 'Sambhav' have identified 42 black spots in Ludhiana district where maximum number of accidents take place. They will now join hands to make these areas safer and for this, they will also take the help of different non-government organizations and religious bodies.
During a road safety meeting of traffic police and district transport office on Wednesday, 42 black spots were discussed.
District transport officer Anil Garg, who is the nodal officer of the project, said, "After marking
Road Safety Week, we now plan to step up our efforts to make the district roads safer. We have identified 42 black spots, where cat eyes and reflectors will be installed. Besides, reflectors will be affixed on trees on roadsides, so that commuters get a fair idea at night."
Rahul Verma, traffic adviser and member of the NGO, said, "Some of the major black spots are B7 resort cut on Pakhowal Road, Gurdev hospital cut at Ferozepur Road, Rajguru Nagar turn at Ferozepur Road, Elevated Road turn, Ferozepur Road to Lodhi Club Road, Kohada Road near petrol pump, Jalandhar Bypass near Greenland School."
"We will ask some more NGOs to join us. Even the religious organizations of gurdwaras and temples will be contacted. We will urge them to adopt at least one spot. These black spots will be made safer by February-end," Verma added.
The DTO said awareness, too, was important. "Every day, a traffic sign along with its meaning will be published in newspapers from January 26. Besides, a short documentary on road accidents will be shown at multiplexes during the intermission," he added.
