LUDHIANA: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday ordered the fire safety audit of all factories falling under the jurisdiction of the district.
"The officials of the fire safety department and factories have been directed to strictly complete the exercise in the next 10-days to ensure no untoward fire incident takes place in the district. The audits should be thorough and cover all aspects of fire safety, including fire exits, fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency evacuation procedures" a statement said.
Besides, Sawhney also ordered all the industries/factories must ensure their fire alarm and fire hydrant mechanisms must be in working condition. She also directed owners of all factories to not lock their industries from outside when the labourers work inside.
The Deputy Commissioner said that any worker could contact on helpline number 0161-2404055 for any kind of assistance for the labour and assured that their identity would be kept anonymous. She said that on Monday night, two labourers died and many suffered burns when fire broke out in a factory at Basti Jodhewal area. She said that a strict action is being taken against the factory owner and the case is also being filed against him for negligence.
