City schools paint the town yellow on Basant Panchami

Ludhiana: ‘Basant Panchami’ is an occasion that marks the advent of the spring season, and it is also celebrated to worship Goddess Saraswati. Many school children came dressed in yellow and offered yellow-coloured flowers to the Goddess.

The day was celebrated at USPC Jain Group of Schools with great fervour and enthusiasm. The students of classes pre-nursery to II assembled to worship Goddess Saraswati. To mark the day, the students brought traditional yellow dishes from home and shared them with their friends. The school management and principal Vinny Malhotra wished that Basant Panchami may bring success and happiness in the USPC family.

To mark the advent of spring, ‘Basant Panchmi’ was also celebrated at Green Land Convent School, Dugri, with great fervour and enthusiasm. Yellow became the colour of the day, as students came in beautiful yellow dresses. The students and staff members worshipped Goddess Saraswati and sought blessings. Principal Mona Thakur apprised students about the significance of the day, and motivated students to understand and respect their inheritance and culture.

BVM School, Udham Singh Nagar, was filled with religious fervour and enthusiasm on the occasion of Basant Panchami. Adorned with yellow flowers, the whole school campus wore a festive look. The celebrations commenced by paying obeisance to Maa Saraswati. Saraswati Pujan created a pious aura in the premises. It was followed by divine rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the school’s musical choir. Prisha Handa (Class VIII) apprised the students about the importance of the festival. Anaya (Class III) welcomed the spring season expressing her heartfelt emotions through a poem. Students of primary wing, beautifully decked in yellow clothes, brightened up the whole environment. The students also relished yellow food items they had brought. Congratulating the students, principal Bandana Sethi motivated them to pray and attain blessings from Goddess Saraswati, the epitome of intelligence and wisdom.

Spring Dale Public School too invoked Goddess Saraswati. Kindergarten students came dressed in yellow, and keeping up with the traditions of the day, ate yellow food items. The custom of writing on sand by the newly joined kids of kindergarten was also performed.

BCM Kindergarten too celebrated the festival with great zeal and fervour. Students as well as teachers came dressed in yellow to mark the beginning of spring. The school was decorated with yellow-coloured balloons and kites. Teachers explained the significance of Basant Panchmi to students. Prayers were offered to the goddess of learning.

The advent of spring was rejoiced in its full bloom on Wednesday at DCM Presidency. A special assembly was conducted to commemorate the celebrations. Stage performances like musical drama, songs, and skits were beautifully staged where students came out gloriously with their talents. The day started solemnly by paying obeisance to the goddess of learning. A soulful and melodious vandana stole the hearts of the audience.The day was marked in red when young performers came up with gleaming colours of spring.

GCG students live it up with song and dance

Ludhiana: The Department of Performing Arts of Government College for Girls (GCG) organised Basant Fest — an open air event, which was held in the flowery lawns of the college. The function was presided over by college principal Manju Sahni. The celebration started with a lamp-lighting ceremony ignited by the principal, vice-principal Varinderjit Kaur, and senior staff council. Addressing the audience, the principal glorified the magnificence of Goddess Saraswati and apprised students of the importance of the festival. She also appreciated the efforts of the staff and students for making the celebration a great success.

The entire event was marked with enthralling performances. Dr Nimita Sharma sang a song Rutt aa gai, rutt chhaa gai. Yogesh Sharma presented a folk tune on sitar, and Sharanjit Kaur Parmar presented a heart-rending performance on Raag Basant. Tabla instructor Malkit Singh from the Music Department mesmerised the audience with his flute performance. Students too presented a wonderful medley, duet, dance performance, and tappe on Basant. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Parmar, Pritam Kaur, Baljit Kaur, Anita Sharma, Neha, and other staff members.
