Bittu turns to god as he prays to score hat-trick
Ludhiana: Ahead of parliamentary elections, sitting MP Ravneet Bittu can be seen taking part in various religious activities taking place in and around the city. Bittu, who is contesting from the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat for the third time, is eyeing a hat-trick. After getting a ticket from the BJP, he is also trying to soak himself in saffron colour. Bittu had on April 2 returned to the city and taken out a road show after paying obeisance at Durga Mata Mandir. He then convened a meeting with BJP workers and leaders for the first time and as soon as he got free from there, he reached Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh in Model Town. The next day, he went to meet party workers in rural constituencies, but not before visiting Gurdwara Manji Sahib in Alamgir. The MP also visited Hazur Sahib in Nanded to seek blessings as well as took part in a “Rath Yatra” organised by Hindu outfits. On Sunday, he became a part of a “Sant Sammelan” on Hambran Road too. His religious excursions, however, have given fodder to his opponents, who claimed had Bittu worked hard in the past five years, he would not have to seek help from the god. A former MLA from the SAD, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, said, “In the last 10 years, Bittu was hardly visible in the city. If he thinks he can win again by just posting a few pictures on social media handles, then it is not going to happen.” He termed his activities as “gimmick”, while cautioning voters to be careful while voting for him. “Bittu is trying to maintain a balance between the Hindu and Sikh voters as he has now joined the BJP. He will have to don saffron colour and prove that he is a devotee of Lord Ram. But he also wants to take Sikh voters along, so he is visiting temples as well as gurdwaras,” Baljinder Singh Bunty, a former councillor from the Congress, said. Meanwhile, Bittu rebuffed these claims by saying, “I am seeking blessings from the god not only for myself, but for all the Ludhianvis. It is not for the first time that I am visiting any temple or gurdwara. I used to visit them earlier as well.” ‘A mere drama’: MP on AAP’s fast Bittu on Sunday called the fast being observed by the AAP leadership in Punjab a “political drama to appease their masters in Delhi”. He condemned the AAP leaders for invoking Bhagat Singh’s name.
