4 awarded 5-year jail for snatching

Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced four men to 5-year rigorous imprisonment each in a snatching case. The court of additional sessions judge Shiv Mohan Garg also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 each on the convicts, identified as Mandeep Singh Money, Vishal Bhandari, Raj Kumar and Sahil Kathuria, all residents of Saleem Tabri area.The case dates back to February 2018, when division number 4 police had booked the four under Sections 379 B (Snatching) and 411 (Dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC.In his complaint, Mahinder Kumar, a worker of a garment shop in Civil Lines, alleged that on February 5, 2018, the four snatched his mobile phone and Rs 1,500 cash at knife-point. The court held that in a case law, it has been held by Supreme court that when the witness turned hostile during the cross-examination, the conviction can be made on the basis of examination-in-chief of the witness. tnn
