11 arrested for illegally taking possession of marriage palace

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a man and his 10 accomplices for illegally taking possession of a marriage palace by threatening and thrashing its manager.The arrested accused were identified as Sunny Sahni of Janta Enclave; Gurvir Singh Guru of Tharike village; Simranjit Singh Simar of Shalimar Park of Dugri; Harmanpreet Singh of Phase-III of Dugri; Ajay Singh of Mohalla Satjot Nagar of Dhandra road; Atul Sharma of C-block of Ishar Nagar; Gaurav of Dugri; Amandeep Singh of Giaspura village; Harmanpreet Singh of Chet Singh Nagar; his brother Kamaldeep Singh and Harshdeep Singh alias Bikramjit Singh of Phullanwal village. The police are yet to arrest Sunny’s father Seetam Sahni.The marriage palace, which is located in Lohara area, is owned by Rakesh Kumar of Janta Enclave, who had hired Jagjit Singh as its manager.Rakesh said that on June 13, the accused barged into the marriage palace and thrashed the manager. They held him captive at gunpoint and video called Rakesh’s son and threatened him to get the palace vacated. Commissioner of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that the police swung into action immediately after receiving information from Rakesh Kumar and arrested 10 accused from the spot. The police also recovered a pistol, a car, sticks and baseball bats from their possession after the arrest.The main accused, Sunny, had paid Rs 7 lakh to his aides to take possession of the marriage palace. All the accused are history-sheeters.Sidhu added that Amandeep Singh, Gaurav Kumar, Simranjit Singh, Ajay Singh and Harmanpreet Singh are facing trial in different criminal cases. An FIR has been lodged against them.
