With Rs 750 crore allocation, UP to make Jewar airport operations hub

Lucknow: Presenting the 2026–27 state Budget on Wednesday, finance minister Suresh Khanna allocated Rs 750 crore for the Noida International Airport project at Jewar.

Khanna said the govt aims to develop Jewar not only as a full-scale international airport but also as an aviation innovation and research centre, alongside serving as a major maintenance and operations hub.


The Budget documents show that the Rs 750 crore capital outlay includes Rs 700 crore for land acquisition and Rs 50 crore for construction-related works, primarily supporting the third and fourth phases of land acquisition.

The airport is being built in four phases under the public private partnership (PPP) model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.

Construction under Phase 1 is complete, and the airport is awaiting its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Land acquisition for Jewar has progressed in stages. Phase 1 involved 1,334 hectares acquired at a cost of Rs 4,588 crore. Phase 2 covered 1,365 hectares, with compensation already distributed to farmers, and will house an additional runway and the airport's maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities. For Phases 3 and 4, a total of 2,053 hectares is required—of which 1,889 hectares will be acquired from 14 villages at a rate of Rs 4,300 per sqm. The remaining land of 165 hectares is already with the administration.

These phases will pave the way for further expansion, including increasing the total number of runways from the initially approved two to five runways.

Once operational, the airport will handle 1.2 crore passengers annually in the Phase 1, with capacity scaling up to seven crore passengers per year upon completion of all four phases. The project is expected to complement Delhi's existing aviation network and meet rising passenger and cargo demands across the national capital region.

Rs 2,111 crore allocated for civil aviation

The UP govt has earmarked Rs 2,111 crore for the civil aviation department for 2026–27, including Rs 1,965 crore under capital outlay. This includes Rs 100 crore for construction and Rs 1,000 crore for land acquisition to expand and strengthen airstrips across the state.

Ayodhya airport gets additional Rs 7 crore

For Ayodhya Airport's upcoming second terminal, the govt has allocated Rs 5 crore for approach-road construction and Rs 2 crore for land acquisition for a police outpost.
