Village-level Gopathycentres in the pipeline
Lucknow: The UP govt is planning to establish Gopathy centres across villages as part of a wider initiative to link cow protection with rural livelihoods, Panchgavya-based treatment systems and the AYUSH sector.
Stating this on Thursday, officials said the initiative aims to develop gaushalas beyond their traditional role as cattle shelters and integrate them with organic farming, rural entrepreneurship and cow-based product manufacturing. “Govt is also seeking to promote Panchgavya-based therapies — derived from cow milk, curd, ghee, gomutra and gobar — alongside scientific research and AYUSH practices,” they said.
Under the proposed model, village-level centres are expected to provide consultation and healthcare support linked to Panchgavya therapy while also creating local employment opportunities through production of cow-based products such as toothpaste, ointments and organic formulations.
Officials said the initiative is being developed under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath with the objective of strengthening the rural economy through cow protection, scientific agriculture and micro-enterprise development.
According to govt, studies are being undertaken on the potential supportive role of Panchgavya-based products in areas such as immunity enhancement, digestive support, skincare and other health-related applications. Authorities said efforts were underway to connect the initiative with AYUSH institutions and scientific research frameworks.
Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Commission Shyam Bihari Gupta said the model was being implemented on a large scale and could help position Uttar Pradesh as a major centre for Gopathy-based treatment and research. Officials said rural youth, women and farmers would be linked to the initiative through production, processing and marketing networks centred around cow-based products. Govt believes the project could create new avenues for self-employment and local enterprise in villages while promoting organic and traditional systems linked to cattle-based rural economies.
The state govt said the initiative was also aimed at strengthening the utility of gaushalas and integrating them with broader economic and healthcare-related activities in rural areas.
