UP constable breaks 30-yr-old javelin record at police athletic meet
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police constable Sachin Yadav, 24, has shattered 30-year-old javelin record at police athletic meet with a remarkable throw of 84.21 metres.Sachin, who is posted at Stationed at Gautam Budh Nagar Police Lines, achieved the feat at the 73rd All India Police Athletic Championships held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.He broke the record of 79.68m set by Satbir Singh of Punjab Police in 1994.Hailing from UP's Baghpat, Sachin's throw has ascended him to sixth position among India's all-time finest javelin throwers. Neeraj Chopra, the two-time Olympic medallist, leads the rankings with 89.94m, followed by Kishore Jena (87.54m), Shivpal Singh (86.23m), Davinder Kang (84.57m), and DP Manu (84.35m).Javelin was introduced to Sachin in 2019 by head constable Sandeep Yadav, another UP police cop who is currently posted in Lucknow.Speaking to TOI, Sachin said, "I am privileged that someone like Sandeep recognised my proficiency in javelin at an early stage, and now our coach Naval Singh, the Dronacharya awardee mentors us."After setting a record at the police athletic meet, Sachin first shared about his achievement to his parents Naresh Yadav, Sita Yadav, sister and elder brother Vipin Yadav, with whom he shares a close bond. "I come from a farmer's family. My brother sacrificed his passion for cricket to support me. My parents have consistently been encouraging with whatever resources they possess. I joined the UP police force through sports quota last year, and I am endeavouring my utmost to achieve new milestones in javelin to bring honour to my family and friends," he added.Sachin substantially enhanced his performance in comparison to the 2023 National Games in Goa, where he secured fourth position with a throw of 78.47m. He has not participated in any international competitions, with the forthcoming Asian Championships and World Championships slated for next year. To secure qualification for the World Athletics Championships scheduled in Japan next year, Sachin must achieve the entry benchmark of 85.50m.
