UP to host state-level climate change solutions seminar today
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh govt will organise a state-level seminar on ‘Solutions to Climate Change Challenges in Uttar Pradesh’ at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on June 5 as part of the World Environment Day celebrations, officials said on Thursday.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will attend the event as the chief guest and participate in a series of programmes focused on environmental conservation, climate resilience and sustainable development.
The seminar, being organised under the state’s ‘Clean UP, Green UP’ initiative, is expected to bring together scientists, environmental experts, academicians, industry representatives, youth organisations, international institutions and members of civil society to deliberate on strategies to address climate change challenges in the state.
Forest, environment and climate change minister Arun Kumar Saxena said a special exhibition would be organised on the sidelines of the event to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s major environmental initiatives, climate-related technological innovations, successful sustainable development projects and conservation efforts.
Several technical sessions on key environmental issues will also be held during the programme, he added.
A major highlight of the event will be the launch of the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Project, described by officials as India’s first airshed-based clean air management initiative. The project, being implemented with World Bank support, involves an investment of Rs 2,741 crore and aims to strengthen air quality management across the state.
The chief minister will also unveil the logo of the state’s ambitious plantation drive under the Mega Plantation Campaign 2026, which targets the planting of 35 crore saplings. He will release a special docket on Uttar Pradesh’s Ramsar sites and launch the official website and promotional video of the Clean Air Management Project.
During the programme, Adityanath will felicitate winners of the logo design and painting competitions organised by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board. Certificates will also be distributed to village heads of wetland villages in recognition of their contribution to environmental conservation.
Officials said the event is intended to promote greater public participation in environmental protection and highlight the state’s efforts to tackle climate change through policy interventions and community engagement.
