UP Police constable exam passes off peacefully
Over 7.23L Candidates Appear For Test
Lucknow: The three-day recruitment examination for constables and equivalent posts in the Uttar Pradesh Police was conducted smoothly across all 75 districts of the state on Monday, with authorities reporting a largely peaceful and transparent process amid tight security arrangements.
The written examination was held in two shifts at 1,183 centres statewide under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB). Officials said elaborate measures were put in place to ensure the integrity of the process, including multi-layered frisking, CCTV surveillance and real-time monitoring of examination centres.
According to official data, 9,62,832 candidates were scheduled to appear for the test, of whom 7,23,540 took the exam, recording an overall attendance of 75.15%.
To curb malpractice and misinformation, the board maintained strict vigilance on social media platforms. Several cases were registered against individuals accused of spreading rumours about paper leaks and attempting to mislead candidates.
In Azamgarh, police arrested a man, Ashutosh Kumar Maurya, for allegedly posting misleading content related to the examination online. An FIR was lodged at Bilariaganj police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
In Hapur, a candidate from Amroha was caught carrying a mobile phone inside the examination centre. Officials said suspicion arose after he spent an unusually long time in the washroom, following which a prohibited device was recovered from him. He was arrested and booked under the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination Act, 2024.
In a similar case in Gorakhpur, another candidate from Bihar’s Nalanda district was caught allegedly using a mobile phone at an examination centre. Police seized the device and arrested the candidate.
The recruitment board reiterated that any attempt to compromise the examination process would invite strict legal action. “The examination was conducted in a fair and transparent manner. Those found involved in spreading misinformation or using unfair means will face stringent consequences,” an official said.
