NEW DELHI/SANT KABIR NAGAR (UP): The lifeless body of Malti Devi, a renowned Bhojpuri YouTuber, was discovered hanging at her in-laws' residence, as reported by the police on Thursday.
The father of the 23-year-old victim has made serious allegations, claiming that his daughter met with foul play and was allegedly murdered by her in-laws due to their dissatisfaction with the dowry arrangements.
Malti Devi operated a YouTube channel named 'Malti Chauhan Fun,' boasting an impressive subscriber base of over 6.5 lakh individuals.
Her dedication to content creation was evident through the extensive collection of 24,000 videos that she had uploaded on her channel.
PTI quoted additional superintendent of police (ASP) Santosh Kumar Singh in a video statement released on X as saying, "We received a complaint from one Deep Chand Chauhan that the body of his daughter Malti Devi was found hanging from a hook in the roof at her in-laws in a village under Mahuli police station. A police team was sent to the spot. The body was recovered and sent for postmortem examination."
Following the complaint filed by Devi's father, an FIR has been officially registered against her husband Vishnu Kumar and three of his relatives.
The charges have been filed under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code, as disclosed by the ASP in a video statement.
The Mahuli police station is actively handling the case.
"It has come to our notice that the deceased was having some trouble with her husband. We are looking into all aspects of the case," he added.
