Banda police on Friday registered five cases — three at Atarra police station and two at City Kotwali police station — in this connection. The cases were lodged after victims' families protested outside the Banda SP office on Thursday, accusing a transgenders gang of bobbitiing their children for sex change.

In some instances, young boys were allegedly kidnapped and forcibly bobbitised. Police have named Katrina aka Dheeru and 12 other transgenders in these five cases. The victims are undergoing medical examination at the district hospital.

"A panel comprising surgeon Dr Ramendra, physician Dr Hridayesh Patel and Dr Krishna Kumar will conduct the medical examination of the victims," said hospital's chief medical superintendent Dr SD Tripathi.

"Probe is underway and we are awaiting the medical panel's findings," said additional superintendent of police, Banda, Shivraj.

According to the victims, the gang is led by a transgender, Katrina aka Dheeru, who operates in Atarra. The gang targets college students by luring them with promises of a better future and money. Later, the victims are taken to Kanpur, where the gang forcibly bobbitises them.

Roopa Devi claimed that Katrina coerced her son Shivam to undergo gender change. Similar complaints were lodged by Qasim, Shanti Devi, and two other families. Social activists in Banda have also demanded action against the transgenders gang.
