Traffic halts in heart of Lucknow due to VIP movement

movement yet again led to a

traffic

snarl in the adjoining areas of

Hazratganj

, leaving commuters at the receiving end on Tuesday.


The traffic was reduced to a crawl from Annexe to Sadar Bazar for at least two hours from 3pm to 5pm. The vehicles coming from Mall Avenue, Sadar Bazar and Hazratganj remained stuck near Annexe.

“The condition is deteriorating day by day,” said Rahul Singh, a bank employee. Anita Singh, a government employee, said that traffic police are completely failing to curb the congestion. “I commute on this route on a daily basis and have to bear with the traffic jam on a routine basis, which is quite irritating. There is a need of a flyover on this route,” she said. Commuters said the area from Annexe to Sadar Bazar becomes a bottleneck due to VIP movement.

“The traffic chaos has become a routine here. Ministers and MLAs are being provided with a hurdle-free ride, while we are the sufferers,” said Mohammad Amir, a businessman.

Shubhanshu Sharma, a private company employee, said that the situation remains the same, especially from Monday to Friday. “The government is not doing anything. What is the need of providing them VIP treatment?” he questions.

Police, however, blamed motorists, saying, “They park vehicles at random, leaving little space on roads. Besides, there are VIP movements too,” they said.
