Founder of the Sahara Group

Subrata Roy, the founder of the Sahara Group headquartered in Lucknow and formerly a prominent figure in India Inc, passed away on Tuesday at 10:30 pm in Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital following an extended period of illness.

End of an era

The demise of Roy signifies the conclusion of an era that commenced when he joined Sahara Finance, a struggling chit fund company in Gorakhpur, in 1976. Within two years, he took over the company, successfully transforming it and laying the foundation for what would eventually evolve into the Sahara empire.

Legacy of Subrata Roy

Roy, hailing from Araria, Bihar, was born on June 10, 1948. As a first-generation entrepreneur, he ventured into a variety of industries, including finance, real estate, aviation, media, healthcare, and hospitality.
