Steeds of different breeds trot away with prizes

Lucknow: All eyes were on Golden Oaks, winner of IPL Cup organised by Lucknow Race Course and Turf Club, second race of the season on Sunday.

The races were in two categories of Indian-bred horses and thoroughbred horses. Mohammad Abdullah's horse, Golden Oaks, ridden by Mohammad Sahil won Rs 10,000 in the thoroughbred category. Pinnacle Point owned by Amar Habibullah ridden by Binod won Rs 7,000 cash in the thoroughbred category. The third position was secured by Aloha owned by Amar Habibullah ridden by Bhoop Singh, won Rs 4,000.


Viewers turned out in their best attires to enjoy the sunny, wintery afternoon with drinks in hands and cheering for their favourite stallions. Army band played romantic vintage songs and light jazz hits.

Among other winners were, Burak in Indianbred category owned by Mohammad Abdullah, ridden by Mohammad Sahil won Rs 5,000 and took home the first prize. Meanwhile, Golden Boy, ridden by Sahil Khan and owned by Shabab Abbas Naqvi finished second and won Rs 3,000.

The 12 horses that participated in the race were Burak, Uncle's Pet, Pinnacle Point, Rudra, Ruby, Tamanna, Shan e Azeem, Golden Oaks, Aloha, Mariella, Golden Boy and Spiritual Force.

At the manual betting counter minimum bet was of Rs 10. Prize for best dressed young couple was won by Kanika and Pradeep and Shachi Johri was adjudged best dressed lady while best hat male prize was won by Madhukar Mittal.

"People come here, to take a break from hectic schedules, busy office and professional work to enjoy, laugh and regale with each other, which increases community bonding and good-hearted sporting fun," said Lt Col Frederick, secretary of the Steward Comittee of race course.
