Lucknow: Samajwadi Party on Friday organised a tribute meeting at the party office in Lucknow to mark the death anniversary of former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh.
On behalf of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, party national secretary Rajendra Chaudhary paid floral tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh. State president Shyam Lal Pal also paid homage on the occasion.
Recalling the contribution of the former PM, Akhilesh Yadav said Chaudhary Charan Singh dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers, labourers and the poor. He said the veteran leader took several landmark decisions in the interest of farmers, with the abolition of the zamindari system being among his most historic achievements.
“Farmers continue to regard Chaudhary Charan Singh as their messiah, and his contribution towards safeguarding their interests will always be remembered,” Akhilesh said.
He said his party remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests by following the ideals and path shown by Chaudhary Charan Singh. He recalled that SP govt had declared 2016 as the “Kisan Varsh” (Year of Farmers) in honour of the former PM. He said whenever SP formed govt in Uttar Pradesh, it prioritised the welfare of villages and farmers.
