LUCKNOW: The Vibhutikhand police on Tuesday arrested director of a real-estate firm for allegedly duping over 200 people on pretext of providing houses/flats.

The accused identified as Pankaj Thakur was arrested from his office. SHO, Vibhutikhand, Ram Singh, said Pankaj was working along with one Shashank Gupta and had floated a firm which used to promise flats, houses.

"The accused used to take money from the gullible but never built any property. When the victims went to seek return of their hard-earned money they were threatened with dire consequences," he said.

The case came to fore when victims Shriprabha and Amitesh Pandey, who were duped of Rs 37.87 lakh and Rs 19.32 lakh respectively, reported the matter to police after failing to get their money back.

Police said so far as many as 200 people have been duped by the firm.
