Lucknow: Inculcating a strong value system and effective use of technology are core areas that universities should work on in order to achieve good NAAC grading, said former advisor, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Prof K Rama during a session on evaluation of NAAC parameters on day one of Shiksha Manthan. Discussing other aspects important for good NAAC grade, Rama said, “Universities must contribute to national development, foster global competencies and pursue excellence in all fields. These will help them earn a good grade.” To facilitate evaluation at both micro and macro levels, Rama introduced various tools to aid standardisation of key areas in the higher education system. She presented a set of seven criteria that continually evolve to reflect the changing landscape of education. The first three comprise revamp pedagogy, assessment, and student support; ensure quality of examinations and implementation of choice based credit system (CBCS) and registration under the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC); focus on research, innovation, and extension activities as crucial goals in higher education towards vision 2030. She said NAAC had unveiled a benchmark to guide universities and colleges in achieving their accreditation targets. The manual containing these practices is available on the NAAC website .
