MLA gives Rs 10k aid to Bara Birwa blaze victims
Lucknow: Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Saturday extended financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to shopkeepers affected by the devastating fire at the Bara Birwa vegetable market and assured full administrative support for reconstruction of shops.
The fire, which broke out around 10:30 pm on Thursday, rapidly spread through the market, destroying around 26 shops and causing significant financial losses to small traders. On Saturday, the MLA visited the site along with former Union minister Kaushal Kishore, took stock of the situation, and interacted with the affected shopkeepers.
Calling the traders “part of the Sarojini Nagar family,” Singh said the entire constituency stands with them in this difficult time. “This is not just a fire incident but a major blow to the livelihoods of several families. We will ensure that every possible help reaches them,” he said.
As immediate relief, Rs 10,000 was distributed to each of the 26 affected traders. The MLA further said he has spoken to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the district administration to ensure maximum compensation for the victims.
Singh added that efforts are underway to arrange compensation through the electricity department, while coordination with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is being carried out to facilitate the repair and reconstruction of the damaged shops.
Several local officials and public representatives, including SDM Ankita Shukla and other civic leaders, were present during the visit.
