Lucknow: King George's Medical University (KGMU) has rolled out new initiatives to better support the needs of resident doctors. Separate restroom facilities for male and female residents are now available across all departments.
A recent assessment revealed that 92% of departments have permanent restroom facilities, while the remaining 8%, including emergency work areas, are equipped with temporary facilities that will soon be upgraded to permanent ones. Furthermore, 80% of departments now have dedicated lounges for resident doctors, providing much-needed space for rest and recovery. According to officials, these initiatives were introduced following a security survey, prompted by residents after a recent incident of rape and murder in Kolkata. The updates were recently presented to Uttar Pradesh's deputy CM Brajesh Pathak during his visit to the university two days ago.
"We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment, with a particular focus on meeting the personal and professional needs of female doctors," said KGMU V-C Prof Soniya Nityananda. TNN
