Lucknow: Sultry conditions returned to the state capital on Saturday as easterly winds swept across the city once again, making weather hot and humid. The maximum temperature was recorded at 43.1 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 27.9 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees above normal. Humidity levels also remained high, with maximum relative humidity reaching 57%, adding to discomfort during the day.The combined effect of heat and moisture made outdoor conditions exhausting, particularly during afternoon hours, while warm nights offered little relief to residents. The India Meteorological Department forecast a clear sky over Lucknow on Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 45 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively. Officials warned that heatwave and warm night conditions are very likely to prevail over the region, which may further increase discomfort levels during both day and night. The change in wind pattern led to a rise in moisture levels, resulting in sticky weather conditions despite dry heat prevailing over most parts of the state. People largely avoided stepping out during the afternoon hours as the combination of heat and humidity made outdoor conditions exhausting.According to Met department, easterly winds are likely to continue over the next couple of days, keeping humidity levels high in Lucknow. Warm night conditions have also persisted, offering little relief to residents even after sunset.IMD senior scientist, Mohammad Danish, said, “The humid condition was due to moisture in the atmosphere from easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, which may also sweep on Sunday making conditions humid. However, the hot condition will prevail across the city and nearby areas with warm nights.”
