LUCKNOW: While the State Human Rights Commission directed principal secretary (home) to lodge an FIR against the then station officer Sarojininagar and constables Dharmendra, Kamlesh, Genda Lal and Rakesh Kumar, the DIG sent the SO to lines on September 22 itself.
DIG DK Thakur, however, denied that the action was taken in anticipation of the SHRC directive, which came on September 23.
Elaborating he said, since SP (east) Vijay Bhushan was asked to probe into the allegations made by Varun Singh that the SO along with other cops had detained him and his friends Rinku and Arun Shukla on June 17 following their heated exchange of words with a bus driver for rash driving.
Interestingly, Varun happened to be the son of a sub-inspector presently posted in Fatehpur. Varun's father was till recently posted in Lucknow only. However, even this did not deter the cops, who detained his son and two of his friends.
Varun had further claimed that they were allowed to go only after he paid a cash of Rs 10,000 as bribe to the SO and other cops. Varun claimed that a constable accompanied him to a nearby ATM of SBI for withdrawal of the amount on the same night at around 9.00 pm.
The fact was corroborated during the inquiry by SP (east). The SP (east) in his inquiry report submitted before the SHRC had clearly mentioned that Rs 10,000 was withdrawn by the complainant on the same day at 9.07pm. The visuals captured by CCTV camera also confirmed the complainant's presence.
On action against the constables, the DIG said that since the inquiry by the SP (east) does not clearly mention the role of the constables, no action has been taken against them and also confirmed that SHRC order's copy has not been received by his office till the filing of the news. Action against all the cops including lodging of an FIR against them would be taken as soon as the SHRC report is received.
