Auto showroom manager killed after debris sack thrown from hotel hits him in Lucknow
LUCKNOW: A 36-year-old service manager employed at an auto showroom died after a sack filled with construction debris was allegedly thrown from the second floor of a hotel building and struck him on the head while he was on his way to work in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Vasundhara Vihar locality of Naubasta Kala under the limits of Chinhat Police.
Police identified the deceased as Anoop Kumar Singh, a resident of Kundouli village in Deoria district, who worked as a service manager at a Maruti showroom near IT Chauraha in Lucknow.
According to police and family members, Anoop was passing in front of a hotel owned by Vishal Tiwari when labourers and hotel staff were allegedly clearing hardened cement debris from the building premises.
Investigators said bags of broken cement and rubble were being thrown from the second floor of the hotel without checking whether anyone was passing below. One such sack allegedly fell directly onto Anoop’s head, causing severe head injuries. He collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood.
Local residents rushed to help and took him to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and detained hotel owner Vishal Tiwari for questioning. The body was sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway.
According to investigators, cement stored at the hotel premises had reportedly hardened after getting wet. Vishal and others allegedly broke the cement into pieces and filled the debris into sacks before throwing them down from the second floor.
The victim’s brother, Shreyansh Singh, alleged negligence and accused persons linked to the hotel owner of attempting to pressure the family into a compromise after the incident.
“My brother had left home for office in the morning when the debris sack hit him directly on the head. He collapsed immediately. People nearby made videos of the incident. Later, some persons associated with the hotel owner came and started cleaning the bloodstains and the area,” he alleged.
He further claimed that several persons reached the police station after the incident and attempted to pressurise the family for a settlement.
Shreyansh said Anoop was the sole earning member of the family and is survived by his wife Richa and two young sons, including a three-month-old infant. Their father is also undergoing treatment for cancer.
The family has demanded strict legal action against the accused and sought financial compensation of at least Rs 50 lakh from the administration.
Police officials said a case is being registered on the basis of the family’s complaint and further investigation is in progress.
