5 girls drown in two separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh

SANT KABIR NAGAR: Five girls drowned in two separate incidents in Sant Kabir district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, officials said.

The first incident occurred at Bargo village, where a boat carrying four girls overturned in Bakhira lake, resulting in three fatalities. In a separate incident, two sisters drowned in a pond in Khatiyawa village while trying to save each other.

The first incident took place in the Bargo village in the Bakhira police station area.

According to additional SP Shashi Shekhar Singh , a boat carrying Meenakshi (17), Kajal (16), Archana (15), and Payal (13) overturned in Bakhira lake. Meenakshi, Archana, and Payal died in the incident. However, Kajal was saved by the villagers and is currently stable and receiving treatment at a hospital.

"The second incident took place in Khatiyawa village of Dudhra police station. Two sisters, Pramila (18) and Urmila (15), were farming on a field when the younger sister's foot slipped, and she fell into a pond," Singh said.

"Pramila tried to save her but she also fell into the pond, and both of them drowned," Singh added.

Singh confirmed that the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their respective families. The process of providing them compensation as per government rules has started.
