24 children injured after school roof collapses in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: As many as 24 children of Awadh Academy School in the Jahangirabad police station area of Barabanki district suffered injuries when a portion of the school’s roof collapsed.

The incident occurred just before the start of classes, as students were standing on the roof for morning prayers.

In a swift response, all injured students were rushed to the district hospital for immediate medical care.

District Magistrate, Barabanki, Satyendra Kumar and Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh visited the scene of the accident and later inspected the hospital to assess the situation.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Awadhesh Kumar Yadav has himself taken charge of the children's treatment, said the DM.

Giving details about the incident, SP Barabanki Dinesh Singh said that it took place around 8 am when students began arriving and prayers started.

"Over two dozen children were on the first-floor roof, with many others present on the ground floor. Suddenly, a 20-foot-long section of the roof collapsed, causing panic and chaos within the school," said the officer.

The school's administration and anxious parents rushed the injured children to the hospital.

In a short span of time, 24 students were admitted and are currently receiving treatment.

DM Satyendra Kumar said that a joint committee consisting of the Joint Magistrate and the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) has been formed to investigate the incident.

"Strict action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry," said the officer.
