Asked about the talks held between LDF convener E P Jayarajan and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar, Surendran said that talks had been held with prominent leaders of both LDF and UDF.

“Talks were held with top leaders of both LDF and UDF, many of whom you would never think would join BJP. Talks have been held with disgruntled leaders of both fronts. After July 4, leaders from the two fronts would join the BJP. That is why I am saying that the polls would herald major changes in state politics,” he said.

Surendran said that the election is about people casting a positive vote for the development agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that though the election would become a reflection of the strong sentiment among people against the state govt, UDF is not likely to gain from that.

He said that LDF and UDF had become nervous of the outcome of the election and that was why they were levelling allegations against each other of having links with the BJP.

“There is no rule that only people from Congress would come to the BJP. People from LDF would also come. In Bengal and Tripura it was CPM cadres who had joined BJP en masse. UDF allies have lost their faith in Congress and the situation is the same in the LDF. CPM would be wrecked in the state after the election,” Surendran said.

He said that there were serious differences of opinion in the LDF and CPM as there is a move to project PWD minister Mohammed Riyas as chief minister candidate in the next elections. The ministers are not able to take any decisions in their ministries as Riyas was making interference on behalf of the CM, Surendran added.

Met 7 leaders from CPM & Cong, says Sobha Surendran
Meanwhile, NDA candidate in Alappuzha Sobha Surendran has said she had met seven top functionaries of political parties, including CPM and Congress, in the state and held discussion with them following the instructions from BJP top brass. She was speaking to reporters in Alathur after casting her vote.
