Captured tiger to be shifted to Tvm Zoo

Kozhikode: State chief wildlife warden Pramod G Krishnan has ordered to shift the tiger captured from Amarakuni in Wayanad to the Thiruvananthapuram zoo. The eight-year-old female tiger which was trapped in cage on Jan 16 is currently kept at the animal hospice and palliative care unit of the forest department at Kuppady. According to South Wayanad DFO Ajith K Raman, the veterinary doctor from Thiruvananthapuram zoo will be visiting the Kuppady facility this week ahead of shifting the tiger. It was found during examination that the tiger's lower canines were missing and there were some wounds in both its forelimbs and hind limbs. The assistant forest veterinary officer had said that it would not be feasible to release the tigress to its natural habitat due to its lack of canines, rendering it unable to hunt in the natural habitat. According to the order, the South Wayanad DFO shall undertake the operation under the supervision and guidance of the chief conservator of forests, northern circle, Kannur. The assistant forest veterinary officer, elephant camp, Muthanga shall accompany and ensure minimum trauma to the animal while translocation.
