On Monday afternoon, Mainak Bhaumick did the
look test
for his next film,
Ghare and Baire
, starring Jisshu U Sengupta and
Koel Mallick in the lead. “I wanted to come up with an unapologetic romantic comedy and that worked as a motivation for Ghare and Baire. We don’t have the fairytale simplicity in our love stories as there is always an intense involvement of ma, baba, thamma, friends, relatives and especially pasher barir mashi in that love affair. From what I have seen, our love stories have a thriller element in them, which multiply with hilariously complicated twists and turns before we can finally figure out our own happy endings. This film deals with that.”
After 11 years, post Amra, Mainak is working with Jisshu again. “With Jisshu around, it is always less work and more fun. I was looking forward to work with Koel for the past few years and am happy that it is ultimately happening. During the look test, Koel was more cautious as she slipped into the ‘sneakers’ of this tomboy character; this is a role she has never done before. Finally, thanks to Jisshu’s barrage of jokes, she opened up a bit. Jisshu too looked his part as a nerdy boy next door — just what the film needed,” said Mainak.
