Power bill gang busted, 1 held

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police busted a Mewati gang that defrauded people with fake power bills and then invested the money in renowned finance firms. On September 28 last year, a resident of Brahmapur Road complained that four men, posing as WBSEDCL staff, tricking him into installing QuickSupport app on his mobile and siphoning off Rs 4 lakh. Sergeant Sanjay Saha of South Suburban division’s cyber cell gave technical help. The victim’s bank found the money was deposited at a finance firm in a loan account of Suresh Kumar (35) from Hisar, Haryana. Suresh was arrested from his village on April 4. “He confessed to the crime and returned the money,” said JCP (crime) Shankha Subhra Chakrabarty. TNN
