Parents move HC over school affiliation

Kolkata: Parents of 77 Class-X students of St Augustine’s Day School, Ripon Street, which has lost its affiliation to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, have moved Calcutta High Court over the fate of the children. The parents said they moved court as they had not received any communication from CISCE, while the deadline for the registration for board exams was approaching. The HC is likely to hear the case on Wednesday.Around 350 students of classes X and XII are staring at uncertainty after their school lost its affiliation last year. Mujibur Raheman, father of a Class X student, said, “We don’t have any choice but to move court. Our kids’ future is at stake.” Senior lawyer and MP Kalyan Banerjee will appear for them.But school principal Richard Gasper made an online post, allaying fears about the affiliation. On Sunday, he posted a photo of himself in hospital and wrote, “I am in hospital after the bizarre incident that happened on September 7… Rest be assured everything with our affiliation is under control, there is nothing to panic.”
