Man promised MBBS seat for son, duped of 45L, 8L gold chain

Kolkata: A Panchasayar resident claimed he was cheated of Rs 45 lakh and a gold chain, worth Rs 8 lakh, by an education firm, suggested to him by some doctors, on the promise of securing an MBBS seat at a private medical college in Nadia for his son.Police said an FIR was registered following the man's complaint, naming two accused. A probe has been launched into the alleged conspiracy, receipt of money and jewellery, and the refusal to refund or return the items.
According to the complainant, his son cleared NEET, the entrance test to medical colleges, in 2024 and the boy sought admission to a private medical college under the National Medical Commission framework. During this period, the man alleged, he was approached by a person who offered to arrange admission for his son in exchange for a ‘package" of Rs 60 lakh. The complainant and his wife even visited the person's flat, where they were introduced to his wife, too. He claimed following a discussion, they agreed to the proposal and began making payments. He claimed to have handed Rs 36 lakh in cash in multiple instalments at that flat, in the presence of the wife of the accused. He alleged she had even urged them to pay the "full package without hesitation".The complaint claimed he paid Rs 45 lakh, in cash and via bank transactions, and handed a Rs 8-lakh gold chain, as "full and final package amount" but the promised admission did not materialise. When he demanded a refund and return of the gold, the accused allegedly first avoided him and then lodged a false complaint against him.
