Kolkata: Jeep on Thursday launched the India-assembled Grand Cherokee at a cost of Rs 77.5 lakh. India is the first country outside of North America where the luxury full-size SUV from the Jeep stable is being assembled. The Grand Cherokee joins the Wrangler that is also assembled at its Maharashtra plant. The other two Jeep products — Compass and Meridian — are manufactured locally.
“We have started local assembly of the Grand Cherokee that will not only help Jeep India recover the costs due to duty reduction following the switch from importing of completely built units to completely knocked down (CKD) parts, it will give us flexibility to meet customer needs by assembling the colour of car that is in demand,” Jeep Brand India head Nipun J Mahajan said.
