KOLKATA: The Bengal BJP president in a Facebook post on Thursday accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to create a “Greater Bangladesh” by raising “Jai Bangla” slogans at her public meetings, but Trinamool Congress countered by citing Rabindranath Tagore’s song that is Bangladesh’s national anthem.

Dilip Ghosh, in support of his claim, shared a poster on his official Facebook account where an image of the West Bengal CM is shown with the caption: “The honourable person is uttering the Bangladeshi slogan Jai Bangla which is the national slogan of Islamic Bangladesh. She is fighting with the objective of a Greater Bangladesh.”

Two other images of Bangladeshi actor Firdaus campaigning for Trinamool in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and a Bangladeshi cricketer inaugurating a Durga Puja organised by a Trinamool MLA in north Kolkata were attached to the Facebook post.

Taking a dig at the BJP leader, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: “If giving Jai Bangla slogan shows the intent of creating Greater Bangladesh, then he may bring the same charge against Rabindranath because his song is the national anthem of Bangladesh.”
